The Benign Congenital Hypotonia Site.
This site exists to serve as a nucleus for collecting people and information dealing with the various benign congenital hypotonias. Many who arrive here find it to be an oasis in a desert of isolation. I hope it provides information and comfort to you too! "Benign Congenital Hypotonia" and it's variants are medical labels which describe a condition of low muscle tone (usually the same thing as weak muscles). They are often used as if they were a specific disorder, but congenital hypotonia is actually just one symptom of many possible specific disorders for which a proper diagnosis may or may not have been made. The underlying disorder could be one of the congenital myopathies (such as Central Core Myopathy or Nemaline Myopathy), one of the metabolic disorders, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Syndrome, Asperger's Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, a brain injury, or any of a great many rare (and possibly as-yet unknown) disorders. Here, you can find information and support for: * understanding congenital hypotonia * dealing with the direct symptom(s) of hypotonia * dealing with the indirect social effects of hypotonia, which are often associated with rare disorders and "hidden" disabilities * discovering the specific disorder that is causing you or your loved one's congenital hypotonia * living without a specific diagnosis * dealing with the medical system, the school system, and other institutions that do not work well for unique people
